Tan Sri Haji Ismail bin Haji Omar, Inspector General of Police (KPN-Ketua Polis Negara), Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) was awarded the "Darjah Utama Bakti Cemerlang", The Distinguished Service Order, by His Excellency, Dr. Tony Tan Keng Yam, President of the Republic of Singapore on the 4 May 2012. It's an honour for KPN & also RMP for receiving an international recognition.

KPN was active and supportive, giving significant contribution in fostering excellent ties and co-operation between the Royal Malaysia Police, the Singapore Police Force and the Singapore Internal Security Department, and thereby enhancing the safety and security of both countries. These active co-operations in the areas of investigations, training and sharing of intelligence and information have yielded tremendous operational successes for both countries in combating terrorism and transnational crime.

INSPECTOR-GENERAL OF POLICE, THE ROYAL MALAYSIA POLICE, TAN SRI HAJI ISMAIL BIN HAJI OMAR

Born on 17 May 1953, Tan Sri Haji Ismail Bin Haji Omar is a career police officer who began his service in the Royal Malaysia Police in 1971.

With more than 40 years of policing experience, Tan Sri Haji Ismail's outstanding performance, strong leadership and unwavering commitment in fighting crime were widely recognised. He progressed rapidly through the ranks and was appointed the Inspector-General of Police of the Royal Malaysia Police on 13 September 2010, reaching the pinnacle of his profession.

Singapore, with its geographical proximity, historical links and close relationship with Malaysia, has benefited from Tan Sri Haji Ismail's active and significant contributions in the promotion of close bilateral ties between the Royal Malaysia Police, the Singapore Police Force and the Singapore Internal Security Department. The excellent co-operation in the areas of investigations, training and sharing of intelligence and information has yielded tremendous operational successes for both countries in combating terrorism and transnational crime. Tan Sri Haji Ismail’s advocacy of extensive bilateral co-operation has also led to the deepening of ties and development of exceptional rapport between officers of both countries.

Under Tan Sri Haji Ismail’s leadership, the Royal Malaysia Police has provided valuable operational assistance to the Singapore Police Force in solving significant cross-border criminal cases and smashing organised crime syndicates. In addition, the long-standing liaison meetings between both Forces in criminal investigations, commercial crime investigations, as well as in maritime security have seen greater sharing of information and closer co-operation.

The Royal Malaysia Police had also contributed greatly to further the region's capacity to combat terrorism and crime, with its hosting of the permanent ASEAN Chiefs of Police (ASEANAPOL) Secretariat within the Royal Malaysia Police Headquarters in Kuala Lumpur since 2010. This had enhanced regional co-operation and provided greater oversight in coordinating the implementation of the resolutions passed at the annual ASEANAPOL Conferences.

For his outstanding contribution in fostering excellent ties and co-operation between the Royal Malaysia Police, the Singapore Police Force and the Singapore Internal Security Department, and thereby enhancing the safety and security of both countries, Tan Sri Haji Ismail Bin Haji Omar, Inspector-General of Police of the Royal Malaysia Police, is awarded the Darjah Utama Bakti Cemerlang.

On the same day, Tan Sri Haji Ismail Bin Haji Omar took opportunity from his busy schedule to make a Courtesy Call On Acting Prime Minister Mr Teo Chee Hean.

Acting Prime Minister Mr Teo Chee Hean met with Inspector-General of Police, Royal Malaysia Police, Tan Sri Haji Ismail Bin Haji Omar on 4 May 2012 at 10am.

The courtesy call by Tan Sri Haji Ismail reaffirms the excellent co-operation between the Royal Malaysian Police, the Singapore Police Force, and the Singapore Internal Security Department. During the meeting, they discussed topics of mutual interest such as combating terrorism and transnational crime, and enhancing intelligence and information sharing between the law enforcement agencies of both countries.
