Zakaria Jaafar broke down in tears when men and women in blue paid him a surprise visit at his home in Kampung Baru Hicom here.
The former sub-inspector, who is now bedridden, retired from the police force 23 years ago.
"I am so touched that serving policemen still remember an old, retired person like me," said the 79-year-old Zakaria, who became immobile following a heart ailment six years ago.
Zakaria, who worked at the Section 7 police station in Shah Alam before his retirement, could not hold back his tears as Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Shafien Mamat sat down and chatted with him.
"I am truly overwhelmed by this gesture during the month of Ramadan.
"I am happy that the officer-in-charge is here. I will keep praying for the police force's success," he said.
Mariam Mohamad, 64, wife of retired sergeant-major Mohamad Ismail Mohd Isa, 67, was also touched to receive a surprise visit. The mother of four who is battling cancer, also became teary-eyed as the visitors converged at her little flat in Section 24 during a visit recently.
"I am moved by the kindness of everyone," said Mariam.
