Kuala Lumpur, 19th January 2025 - A new criterion requiring police officers to maintain a body mass index (BMI) of less than 28 for promotion will not only enhance their performance, but also improve the force's image, former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Tan Sri Musa Tan Sri Hj. Hassan said.
“For me, it's important that police officers stay fit, they need to maintain good health so they can serve the community effectively.
"If they're out of shape, how can they be expected to perform their duties well, for example, when chasing criminals?”
Tan Sri Musa added during his tenure, police officers were sent for a “re-training” programme to reduce weight and ensure quality performance delivery.
On Thursday, IGP, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain announced that police officers must have a BMI of less than 28 to be promoted, as part of efforts to make the promotion process stricter.
He said the initiative was aimed at encouraging the officers' to maintain their health and level of skill.
