THIRTY TWO GAMBLING JOINTS BUSTED IN RECORD DAY FOR SARAWAK CID

Miri, July 20 - Some 32 illegal gambling joints in 11 districts in Sarawak were busted in a swoop on Wednesday.

State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) head Senior Asst Comm Dato’ Dev Kumar said the raids on Wednesday marked a major success in the war against vice.

"Thirty-two successful raids in one day is a record for the Sarawak CID.

"We busted illegal 4-D joints including places where coffee shops and sundry shops were used as fronts.

Forty individuals, aged between 17 to 41 years, were arrested in the raids.

"We also seized equipment like computers, handphones and cash.

SAC Dev said the raids were carried out simultaneously in major urban centres like Kuching, Miri, Sibu and Bintulu as well as smaller towns like Limbang to Julau.

“Dato’ Amer Awal, the new Sarawak Police Commissioner had called for more extensive raids against vice,” added SAC Dev.
