KUALA LUMPUR, 25 Mac 2015: Moving towards becoming a "World-Class Policing" organisation, the Royal Malaysia Police reached a milestone with the establishment of its permanent Disaster Victim Identification (RMP-DVI) Unit. 

Formed during the Lahad Datu incursion two years ago, the unit today is led by five police officers, who act as a secretariat, who have the ability to command the mobilisation of an all-time ready team of 50 forensic experts trained in victim identification. 

Since its establishment, the RMP-DVI has been excelling the nations name internationally with their state-of-the-art forensics investigation knowledge and technology, especially during investigations into the tragedies of Malaysia Airlines' Flights MH370 and MH17 last year. 

RMP-DVI commander Assistant Commissioner Hussein Omar Khan says members of the elite team are chosen from personnel who have shown outstanding performance in forensics investigations. 

"The team members are sent for training in disaster victim identification on top of basic courses in forensics. "They include a one-week course with the Australian Federal Police DVl headquarters in Canberra and two weeks at the Jakarta Centre for Law Enforcement Cooperation in Semarang. Indonesia," he tells the New Straits Times, adding that the secretariat also holds mandatory bi-annual internal exercise.

Hussein says the RMP-DVI team is ready to be mobilised at all times, with the number of members deployed depending on the number mahnitude disaster.
