KUALA LUMPUR: The Strategic Resources and Technology Department (StaRT) formerly known as the Logistics Department, provides resources, technology and initiatives to support and enable the police force as it works towards World-Class Policing.

Director Datuk Zulkifli Abdullah says his priority is to bring about a change in mindset, and he hopes to see improvements within another six months.

"Policing is far more than law enforcement. Understanding the changes in society that can affect policing in the future is vital to the services provided today. The StaRT transformation exercise is currently in progress," he said.

"Initiated primarily to achieving World-Class Policing, the outcomes will work towards the vision of making Malaysia a safe and secure nation.

"Crime is increasingly organised, becoming global, digital and operating across complex networks. Reduced budgets require police to do more with less.

"To meet these current challenges and preparing for future policing, the police force must take several pertinent steps to transform, such as engaging citizens; empower officers; optimise ways of working; predict and improve services through analytics; enhancing collaboration: and proactively manage change." said Zulkifli.

The ongoing transformation wil implement solutions and make creative and innovative improvements where necessary, and as resources permit.

"Right now, we are already using some sophisticated devices. For example, the MCAD system for policemen on ground duty that can enquire information and police intelligence records real-time and to communicate with our station without delay.

On green technology applications, police are fitting their stations with LED lights, deploying hybrid engine vehicles. electric scooters and optimising ICT maintenance with data centre operations, cooling and power supply.
