RM100K WORTH OF GANJA SEIZED FROM NIGERIAN RING

Kuala Lumpur, August 24 - Some RM100,000 worth of ganja were seized following several raids on a syndicate masterminded by a Nigerian college student.

A total of nine people- eight Nigerian men aged between 25 and 42 and a 34-year-old Ugandan woman - were detained.

Among those detained is the 36-year-old Nigerian man, who was studying Business Administration at a private college in Cheras.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department deputy director Deputy Comm Dato’ Kang Chez Chiang said three raids were conducted in Seri Kembangan, Petaling Jaya and Sungai Besi on Aug 21.

“Some 24.5kg of ganja worth RM100,000 were seized from the syndicate.

“We believe they have been importing ganja from overseas.

“Initial Investigations revealed that the syndicate has been operating for six months,” he told a press conference in Bukit Aman today.

DCP Kang said the syndicate was using drug mules to smuggle the drugs from foreign countries.

“While the drugs seized were for the local market, the syndicate also exported drugs to several countries including the United States and Canada.

“The successful arrests were made based on cooperation with the US’s Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA),” he said. – THE STAR
