Kuala Lumpur, 20th June 2021 - After almost three years at the helm of the Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) of the Royal Malaysia Police, CP Dato' Zamri Yahya feels he made headway in prioritising integrity and quality service among the men and women in blue.
On Wednesday, he officially left the department to take up his new appointment as Director of the Special Branch. Speaking to Sunday Star, though, it's obvious that he feels strongly about JIPS and improving the image of the Royal Malaysia Police. Here he shares how he did during his time at JIPS, how he sees the role of the police, and why the public needs to be aware that a few bad apples don't spoil the bunch.
To begin with, the main role of every police officer is to protect society by preserving safety and public order, he says.
"This is evident as the police are always needed to settle conflicts in society, from small issues to the big ones.
"We must remember that every member of the police force comes from the people, from society, and their work requires them to work together with the public.
"Don't let a few bad apples cause the police force to be ridiculed unjustly, especially on social media." He points out that every member of the police force will not hesitate to risk his or her life to protect the public - and this is very evident in how the force has been involved in COVID-19 operations since the pandemic began last year.
