Responding to the reported presence of extra policemen on the day Nazri was brought to court, Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG Dato’ Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said it was because the case was of public interest.

“There is no difference in treatment (accorded to Nazri). It is a case of public interest, so we have to be vigilant for any disturbances or threats,” he said in a special press conference at Bukit Aman here, yesterday.

On December 18, the New Straits Times reported that members of the media were left bewildered by the alleged special treatment accorded to Nazri, who is a senior police officer.

Journalists who had packed the Ipoh magistrate''s court compound since 7.30am to snap photos and record videos of the accused were surprised when Nazri was not escorted via the usual route taken by those brought to court.

They were also taken aback by the presence of extra policemen at the courthouse who were shielding Nazri away from them.
