Alor Setar, 6th July 2023 - Kedah Police have busted an international online syndicate targeting victims in Taiwan and China, and operating from a call centre in Mergong, following the arrest of 51 foreigners and three Malaysians on Monday.
Among the foreigners rounded up in the raid were 19 Taiwanese men, a Taiwanese woman, 21 Chinese men, and two Bangladeshi men, all aged between 20 and 50 yearsold.
“Based on investigations, we discovered that the syndicate was targeting Chinese and Taiwanese citizens from the call centre.
“We believe all the foreigners had entered this country legally, but their identification and travel documents are believed to be held by the syndicate leader.
“We will conduct a joint investigation with the Immigration Department to obtain more details of their identities,” he told reporters at the state police headquarters.
