Kota Kinabalu, 25th June 2023 - Security forces led a three-day blitz involving several government agencies that targeted settlements of illegal immigrants in Semporna.
Besides the town area, the operation, which started on June 20, was also carried out at squatter villages such as Kampung Perigi, Kampung Musalah, Kampung Bangau-Bangau, Kampung Sekolah Kebangsaan Pekan Dua and a reflexology centre.
Newly-minted Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCOM ) Commander, DCP Victor Sanjos said the exercise was not merely to flush out undocumented migrants but was also aimed at preventing cross-border crime in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZONE).
“We inspected 74 houses and premises, with a total of 1,166 people screened,” he said. This led to the arrest of seven men over various immigration violations.
