A vigorous cyberspace war between candidates who are scrambling to catch the electorate is expected to build up leaving voters bombarded with disinformation and at risk of being exposed to cybersecurity breaches. Inspector General of Police, IG Tan Sri Acryl Sani Hj. Abdullah Sani said the police would be working closely with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to monitor and take action against the spread of fake news during GE15.

"As we all know, the spread of fake news intensifies during an election. "It is important for both agencies to work together to curb the spread of fake news," he told The Star. "Enforcement will be conducted on those spreading fake news and those who mislead the public. "Spreading fake news does not benefit anyone. "It is important for people to believe only news or information that has been verified by the relevant authorities," he said.

Tan Sri Acryl Sani advised the public to log in to the portal under MCMC, https://sebenarnya.my/salur/ to report fake news and verify information. "We need the cooperation of the public in this matter so that fake news can be curbed effectively," he said.
