The police revealed that an average of five murder cases occurred weekly during this period.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP), IG Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said, the number of cases reported were 243 in 2021, 240 in 2022, 258 in 2023, and 119 cases in the first six months of this year.

“Analysis shows 657 victims were locals, while 290 were foreigners. The identities of 13 victims could not be determined.

“The victims included 62 children, 106 individuals aged 15 to 25, 541 victims aged 26 to 60, 98 victims aged 60 and above, and 140 whose ages could not be determined.” He said 95 per cent of the cases were solved thanks to the efforts of the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department and public cooperation.

“A total of 1,658 individuals were arrested in connection with these cases, including 950 locals and 708 foreigners.

“Of the 860 murder cases recorded, 323 were believed to have stemmed from arguments and disputes,” he said.
