'DATUK' TARGETTED IN 'MACAU SCAM'
THE family of a "Datuk", who is also a deputy minister, was among those targeted by an international "Macau scam" syndicate in Kuala Lumpur.
The syndicate MO was to tell family members their loved ones were in danger.
The Kuala Lumpur Commercial Crime chief said, the syndicate also tricked victims by impersonating bank officers and claiming that the victim's bank account had been frozen and they would need to pay a certain amount to avoid being blacklisted.
It was reported that police had busted the Macau scam syndicate following raids at six luxury condominiums in Kuala Lumpur which the raids led to the arrests of 52 China nationals aged between 18 and 52.
The syndicate ,would spend RM100,000 a month in rent for the condominiums and had cooks and housekeepers to ensure syndicate members did not have to leave the units.
