A toddler believed to have been abased died of severe head injury in Wangsa Maju here on Friday. Following the 2-year-old girls death, police arrested three suspects, including her mother and stepfather, here in Kuala Lumpur.

City Criminal Investigation Department Chief Datuk Zainuddin Ahmad said the couple and a male friend of the husband was nabbed at the hospital mortuary at 9pm on Saturday. 

"The victim's biological father told police that he received a call from his 28-year-old ex-wife at 10.25pm Friday, saying that their daughter was admitted at Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL).

“The man rushed to the hospital, only to be told by a doctor that his daughter had died. He lodged a report at the hospital's police station," he said. 

Datuk Zainuddin said the victim's stepfather and his friend, aged 34 and 35 . Respectively, had claimed that she started choking and coughing while playing at his house about 8pm on Friday. 

They rushed her to a clinic in Taman Melawati here. The clinic, however, directed the case to HKL, where the toddler was pronounced dead upon arrival. 

''A post-mortem conducted on the victim's remains at 3pm on Saturday revealed that she had died of severe head injury due to blunt force trauma. 

"Following the result, police arrested the three suspects, who were at the compund of HKL mortuary, to facilitate investigation ", he said.

The suspects were remanded for seven days starting yesterday to facilitate investigations, and the victim's body was claimed by her father yesterday and buried in Gombak.
