BRUNEI, MALAYSIA POLICE TRACKING 52 STOLEN VEHICLES IN SARAWAK

MIRI: The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) is intensifying efforts to locate some 52 Brunei-registered vehicles believed to have been stolen from the country and brought into Sarawak since 2015.

The vehicles are estimated to be worth over one million Brunei dollars or RM3 million.

Brunei’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) deputy director Senior Supt Mohd Fadzillah Ismail revealed that the RBPF, in collaboration with the Royal Malaysia Police, have seized five cars of various models since last year.

“Only two (cars) however were related to the case (stolen and brought into the state), and both were recovered in December last year and in January this year. The other three vehicles were involved in other crimes,” he said.

Mohd Fadzillah was met here yesterday after the handing-over of recovered Brunei-registered vehicles by local police at Miri Central Police station.

He added that the RBPF believes that the remaining 52 vehicles are still in Sarawak and will be working closely with local police to locate them.

Based on their investigation, the deputy director said it is believed that members of a syndicate would rent the vehicles from car rental businesses in Brunei, and drive across the border to sell the vehicles to locals in Sarawak.
