Deputy Director (Money Laundering / Forensic Accounting Investigation) of Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID), DCP Dato’ Muhammed Hasbullah Ali said, at the pre-launch of the campaign Wednesday (October 27), that the initiative was needed due to the rising amount of commercial crime cases, especially those conducted online.

“There is a need to have a more proactive approach that would bring a bigger impact at greater speed,” he said at the CCID headquarters here.

Several programmes tied to the awareness campaign are in the works, including issuing messages during khutbah (sermons) at mosques.

“We are also working with local influencers so that our message gets spread to a larger audience. A poster campaign will also be conducted for participants,” he said.

As of now, the official launch will be conducted at Berjaya Times Square.

According to statistics shared by the department, the cybercrime cases investigated under the Communications and Multimedia Act (MCMC) and Computer Crimes Acts have led to losses of around RM12,296,284.35 between January 1 and September 30 this year.
