Kuala Lumpur, 30th January 2025 - Bukit Aman will conduct an in-depth study on the government's proposal for law enforcement agencies, including the police, to utilise part of the 5G bandwidth for secure communications.
Inspector General of Police (IGP), Tan Sri Razarudin Husain welcomed the idea mooted by the Minister of Communications, Tuan Fahmi Fadzil, saying it was important to leverage the latest technology for policing.
"Cybercrimes evolve rapidly, so we too must adapt quickly," Tan Sri Razarudin told the New Straits Times.
It was reported in October that the police were testing over 1,300 body-worn cameras in the Klang Valley with plans to expand their use nationwide.
Other wireless applications where 5G would prove beneficial included the deployment of drones which could be used to monitor floods and search for missing persons.
