Kuala Lumpur, 8th May 2020- The Gerak Malaysia initiative that allows conditional interstate travel for motorists saw a smooth start in the capital, yesterday.

The four-day interstate travel schedule allows those who have been stranded in Kuala Lumpur and other state due to Movement Control Order (MCO) to return home.

Under the Conditional MCO, which entered the fourth day yesterday, clearance for travel was also given to parents wanting to pick up their children in their hometown.

More than a week ago, the government announced a similar initiative to allow university students who had been stranded on campus and in their hostels to return homes to their families.

Under Gerak Malaysia, motorist left Kuala Lumpur yesterday, while travellers from Perak, Johor and Kelantan are scheduled to leave today.

Those on Perlis, Kedah, Melaka and Pahang will leave tomorrow, while those leaving Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Terengganu will travel on Sunday.

Yesterday, traffic on major expressways at toll plazas leaving the federal capital were reported to be smooth.
