This said Deputy Home Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, was because the salaries and allowances for policemen were still low and considered insufficient, especially for those residing in urban areas.

He added that a request had been submitted to the Public Service Department (PSD) to review the matter.

“The government, with PSD, are conducting a study on the salary structure for civil servants, including for policemen, which includes cost of living allowances.

“We realise that the rate (of emoluments) is low compared with the increasing cost of living, especially in major cities such as Kuala Lumpur.

“For example, the allowance for cost of living is provided based on their location, which ranges from RM200 to RM35O per month.

“Hence, the ministry has submitted a request to PSD to assess the matter,” he said during minister''s question time in the Dewan Rakyat.
