Rantau Panjang, 25th February 2022 - Members of the General Operations Force (GOF) are ordered to double their operations on public transportation suspected to be in cahoots with human trafficking syndicates.
Commanding Officer of GOF Eighth Battalion, Superintendent Mat Shukor Yusuf said, the move was to prevent more illegal immigrants especially those from Myanmar from entering Malaysia via the Kelantan border.
He added that double checks needed to be carried out on the suspected transportation, including tour buses and motorcycles belonging to locals.
"Lately, smuggling of illegal immigrants into this country via the Kelantan border, particularly those from Myanmar, were rampant.
"I have ordered the GOF members who are manning the border for Op Wawasan to increase their checks on suspected public transportation passing through the roadblocks.
"Similar checks are also needed at the illegal jetties suspected to have been used by human traffickers to bring in the immigrants," he added.
