He was known as a senior police officer who was firm and placed great emphasis on discipline among his officers and men, and was very frank about his strategies and management style in achieving his goals.
He saw the immediate priority as reducing the crime rate and restoring public confidence in matters of safety in order to strengthen the Royal Malaysia Police, guided by his pledge: "I will work within the powers provided by law and ensure the RMP continues to deliver the best service for the well-being of all Malaysians and the nation".
