He began police training at the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre on 27 December 1982 as a Probationary Inspector. During his service, he held numerous key appointments, including Officer in Charge of Police District Kudat, senior Criminal Investigation Department posts at Bukit Aman, Penang Criminal Investigation Department Chief, Deputy Commissioner of Police Sabah, Deputy Chief of Police Perak, Perak Chief of Police and Director of the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department.
He was appointed Deputy Inspector General of Police on 26 December 2021 before becoming the 14th Inspector General of Police on 23 June 2023 following the retirement of Tan Sri Acryl Sani bin Hj. Abdullah Sani.
His contributions to the Force and the nation were recognised through numerous honours and medals conferred between 2008 and 2026, including the Panglima Setia Mahkota (P.S.M.) in 2022 and the Panglima Mangku Negara (P.M.N.) in 2024, both carrying the title Tan Sri, and the Singapore Darjah Utama Bakti Cemerlang in 2025.
