Section 3(3) of the Police Act 1967 outlines For the sake of national sovereignty and the well-being of the community and the credibility of the force, the fundamental duties of members of the Royal Malaysian Police are: 

• To preserve Law and Order 
• To maintain the Peace and Security of Malaysia 
• To prevent and detect criminals 
• To arrest and prosecute offenders and 
• To gather security intelligence.
