Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID)
45 questionsThe CCID is a department within the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) responsible for conducting investigations, detection, and enforcement actions regarding commercial crimes. Cases investigated include fraud, criminal breach of trust, forgery, financial crimes, online fraud, and other commercial offenses provided for under the law.
Cases commonly investigated by the CCID include investment fraud, phone scams, love scams, job scams, non-existent loan schemes, online purchase or sales fraud, fraud involving forged documents, criminal breach of trust, forgery, and other commercial cases involving criminal elements.
No. The CCID also investigates various forms of commercial crime—whether committed physically or online—depending on the facts of the case and the relevant legal provisions.
Generally, the CCID operates at the Bukit Aman, contingent, and district levels in accordance with the Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) structure. The handling of a case depends on jurisdiction, the location of the incident, the complexity of the case, and directives regarding the management of the investigation.
Not necessarily. A report will be assessed based on the facts, elements of the offense, and jurisdiction. Cases involving civil disputes, contractual issues, or matters falling under the purview of other agencies may be referred to the appropriate channels.
The public is advised to follow announcements via official RMP and CCID channels, as well as awareness campaigns, crime prevention programs, and educational materials issued by the authorities.
Immediately contact the bank or financial institution involved to report the transaction, reach out to the relevant official scam response channels, and lodge a police report without delay. Prompt action can assist in efforts to trace and block the flow of funds.
You can make a police report at any police station. Just make sure to provide complete details and bring along any relevant documents or evidence to help with the check and investigation.
Among the evidence that can be prepared are transaction receipts, bank statements, recipient account numbers, phone numbers, conversation screenshots, website links, email addresses, social media usernames, advertisements, contracts, and other related documents.
If there is an attempted fraud, threat, identity theft, forgery, or suspicious circumstances containing elements of an offense, the public may come forward to lodge a police report for further evaluation and appropriate action.
Early reporting allows tracing actions, transaction verifications, and coordination with financial institutions or relevant agencies to be carried out faster. In financial fraud cases, time is a critical factor.
The recovery of money depends on several factors, including how quickly the report was made, the presence of funds in the recipient's account, money movement to other accounts, freezing status, and investigation findings. There is no guarantee that all transferred money can be fully recovered.
No. A police report is the beginning of the verification or investigation process. Any action, including an arrest, is made based on facts, statements, investigation needs, and legal provisions.
State the chronology of events clearly, including the date, time, method of introduction or communication, phone numbers, bank accounts, transaction amounts, reasons for payment, identities used by the suspect, and all relevant evidence.
A phone scam is a fraud conducted via phone calls where scammers impersonate authorities, financial institutions, courier companies, courts, or specific organisations to intimidate or deceive victims into handing over personal information or transferring money.
The public should be cautious of any individual ordering them to transfer money into an account under the pretext of investigation, account security, or verification. Any such instruction must be verified through official channels.
A love scam is a fraud where the suspect builds an emotional or romantic relationship with the victim, typically through social media or communication apps, before making various excuses to ask for money.
A job scam is a fraud involving fake job offers. Victims are usually promised attractive income or commissions before being instructed to make payments, perform specific tasks, or top up capital to earn higher returns.
A non-existent loan scam occurs when victims are offered a loan but are subsequently asked to make various payments—such as processing fees, deposits, insurance, taxes, or other charges—before the loan can supposedly be approved or disbursed.
An investment scam occurs when victims are deceived into handing over money to illegal or non-existent investment schemes or opportunities, typically with promises of high, quick, or guaranteed returns.
Warning signs include promises of extraordinary profits, guarantees of risk-free returns, pressure to make immediate payments, the use of personal bank accounts, unverified profit displays, difficulty in making withdrawals, and requests for additional payments before funds can be withdrawn.
An online shopping scam occurs when victims pay for advertised goods or services but do not receive the items, receive items that do not match what was promised, or the seller becomes uncontactable after the payment is made.
Use trusted platforms, check seller details, avoid transactions outside the official platform, beware of prices that are too good to be true, verify the recipient's bank account before making payments, and do not rush when pressured to execute a transaction.
Phishing is a fraudulent method that uses fake links, websites, messages, or emails to obtain confidential information such as usernames, passwords, card numbers, OTPs, or banking details.
Do not click on suspicious links and never enter your banking information through unsolicited links. Contact the respective financial institution via official channels to confirm its validity.
No. Banking security credentials such as OTP, TAC, PIN, and passwords must remain strictly confidential and should never be disclosed to anyone, including individuals claiming to represent specific organisations.
Do not rush. Always verify before trusting, verify before making payments, never disclose banking details, and never execute transactions under pressure, threats, or promises of easy profits.
A mule account is a bank account used by another party to receive, transfer, or withdraw money linked to criminal activities.
The public should not surrender, lend, or allow their bank accounts, ATM cards, PIN numbers, or online banking credentials to be used by third parties. Accounts used to receive illicit funds can become the subject of an investigation.
If an individual's account is involved in the money trail of a criminal activity, the account holder may be summoned to assist with the investigation. Further action depends on the facts, knowledge, role, and evidence gathered.
Restrictions or enforcement actions on an account can be taken based on investigative requirements and legal provisions when the account is suspected to be linked to funds from criminal activities.
Obtain details from the respective financial institution and fully cooperate with the investigating authorities if required. Any further review or action is subject to the status and requirements of the ongoing investigation.
The public is advised to use the official check channels provided by PDRM (such as Semak Mule) to verify bank account details or phone numbers before making transactions to unfamiliar parties.
The duration of an investigation depends on the complexity of the case, the number of transactions, the volume of witnesses, document requirements, digital forensics analysis, suspect tracking, and coordination with financial institutions, service providers, or other relevant authorities.
Commercial crime cases often involve complex money trails across multiple accounts, fake identities, digital devices, corporate entities, third-party accounts, or cross-border transactions. Every piece of evidence must be formally secured and analysed in accordance with legal procedures.
Complainants can contact the assigned investigating officer or the department handling the case via official channels to request updates, subject to investigative sensitivity and confidentiality requirements.
No. Certain information forms part of active investigative proceedings and cannot be disclosed if doing so could compromise the investigation, witness safety, enforcement operations, or judicial processes.
Decisions are made based on the established facts, evidence, and elements of an offence. If a matter lacks criminal elements or falls under the jurisdiction of another authority, appropriate action will be taken according to relevant laws and channels.
If there are elements of fraud, forgery, criminal breach of trust, or other criminal offences, a police report can be lodged. However, if the issue only involves a contractual dispute, service quality, or monetary claim without criminal intent, civil channels or consumer protection agencies may be more appropriate.
Immediately contact your bank to block unauthorized access or transactions, change all relevant passwords, stop using suspicious applications or links, preserve evidence, and lodge a report with the authorities if any financial loss or misuse of personal information has occurred.
Scam syndicates can use multiple methods and technologies (such as caller ID spoofing or VoIP) to alter or conceal their communication channels. Therefore, the public should not rely solely on the displayed phone number to determine the authenticity of a call.
Investigations involve money trail analysis, transaction records, communications, documentation, digital forensics on devices, as well as information gathered from financial institutions, telecommunication providers, and relevant agencies to identify the individuals involved.
Scam cases can involve cross-border networks. In such situations, RMP (Royal Malaysia Police) collaborates with relevant local and international law enforcement agencies and authorities based on investigative requirements.
Information can be provided through official RMP channels or by walking into any police station. The public is encouraged to provide specific details such as phone numbers, bank accounts, social media usernames, locations, links, screenshots, or related documents.
Information can be provided through official PDRM channels or by walking into any police station. The public is encouraged to provide specific details such as phone numbers, bank accounts, social media usernames, locations, links, screenshots, or related documents.

If a person commits a money laundering offence and is convicted, the individual can be imprisoned for a term not exceeding fifteen years and can also be fined not less than five times the amount or value of the proceeds from the illegal activity, or five million ringgit, whichever is higher.
Yes, it can be. Usually, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will open an investigation paper for the primary predicate offence first (e.g., Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating/fraud). In parallel, an AMLA investigation will also be conducted if the elements of a money laundering offence are fulfilled.
