Ops Selamat
Op Selamat is a Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) initiative introduced in 2012 to replace Ops Sikap, launched by the Inspector-General of Police, IG Tan Sri Ismail Omar.
Programme Details
Op Selamat focuses on festive seasons, which see an increase in the movement of the public and road users.
This operation is executed comprehensively with the involvement of various Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) departments and units based on their respective duties and functions, emphasizing road safety, smooth traffic flow, and crime prevention—particularly house break-ins of residences left vacant when the public returns to their hometowns or celebrates festive seasons.
Ops Selamat 1
Organized in conjunction with the 2012 Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration and executed over 15 days, from 12 to 26 August 2012, under the theme "Safe Home, Safe Destination" (Rumah Selamat, Selamat Sampai Ke Destinasi).
Emphasizes enhancing road user safety while preventing property crime at homes left vacant throughout the festive season.
The Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department plays the main role in road safety and traffic enforcement.
The Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department, along with relevant Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) departments, execute their respective functions in crime prevention and community safety.
Objectives of Ops Selamat
Reduce Road Accidents, Lower the rate of road traffic accidents, particularly throughout festive seasons.
Instill Road Safety Discip,line, Raise awareness and discipline among road users to prioritize safety while driving.
Ensure Smooth Traffic Flow, Guarantee the safety and smooth journey of all road users.
Prevent Residential Burglaries, Deter house break-ins and property crime while families leave their homes to return to their hometowns (balik kampung).
Boost Police Presence, Increase omnipresence in identified high-risk areas or accident black spots.
Promote Community Involvement, Encourage the public to take an active role in neighborhood safety, including notifying nearby police stations prior to leaving their homes vacant.
